What to Bring to a Private Photography Lesson

May 26, 2026 · 4 min read · South Florida Photo

Lessons are built around your gear and goals, so the best thing you can bring is what you already own. Here’s a simple checklist to make your first session count.

The essentials

  • Your camera — any make or model.
  • Every lens you own (yes, even the one you never use).
  • A charged battery, plus a spare if you have one.
  • A memory card with free space.

Nice to have

  • A tripod, if you own one.
  • Any accessories you’re unsure how to use.

Most important: your goals

Come with two or three photos you wish you could take, or a situation you keep struggling with — travel, family events, real estate, low light. The lesson is yours, and the clearer your goal, the more we can tailor it.

Online or outdoors

For online sessions, have your camera and computer handy so we can share screens. For outdoor sessions, dress for the weather and the light — we’ll meet where the conditions are best.
